Put an end to your panic attacks here at Mind
Matters.
Panic attacks are sudden periods of intense anxiety. The onset of of these episodes is typically abrupt and may have no obvious triggers.
Physiologically humans have not changed in fifty thousand years and our panic reaction is just the same as our ancestors. It is very understandable for a person to go into what we term 'fight or flight' mode when a sabre toothed tiger is lurking nearby; the body is flooded with hormones, particularly adrenaline, which prepare the body to defend itself. The fight or flight response is still our survival system which I like to compare with an overactive air bag in a car.
When an emergency happens in a car the bag instantly inflates to protect us from injuries. Imagine that our own survival system worked in the same way. It's wonderful in that it helped us to avoid all the dangers in our history. However, if the airbag inflated every time we hit the brake then we would certainly be prevented from driving normally and safely.
The fight or flight response has been an excellent way of preserving our species but iduring a visit to a supermarket or restaurant, ( or wherever) if we react in the same way as if we were being chased by a sabre toothed tiger, then it is because our protection system has fired inappropriately.
Panic attacks cause physical symptoms and a first time sufferer may well think they are having a heart attack. Common symptoms are heart palpitations, sweating, burning sensations, nausea, dizziness or light headedness, tingling sensations and a feeling of choking. Having a panic attack is said to be one of the most intensely frightening, upsetting and uncomfortable experiences of a person's life - and I can personally vouch for that! Fear of when the next panic attack will occur can affect a person's life dramatically as they will avoid situations where it's a possibilty. Some clients haven't been in a supermarket or restaurant, for instance, for years.
The wonderful news if you suffer from panic attacks is that, through hypnotherapy, your protection system can be 'fixed' so that it no longer fires inappropriately. The reason that you suffer panic attacks is in your subconscious mind and it is your subconscious mind that we address directly in a hypnotherapy session.
One or two sessions generally required.
A session lasts about one and a half hours and costs £60. You also receive a free CD.
